The Technical University of Ingolstadt (THI) is expanding its study program with the English-language Master 'Intelligent Aerial Systems'. Starting in the winter semester 2026/27, students will be prepared for the development of intelligent and networked flight systems – a technology field of growing importance for the economy, mobility, and security.
The new program combines content from aviation, electrical engineering, and information technology, as well as artificial intelligence. It focuses on autonomous flight systems that can sense their environment, analyze data, and independently perform complex tasks.
More than drones
The curriculum includes topics such as sensors, navigation, flight guidance, machine learning, system architectures, and model-based development methods. The training is complemented by laboratory work and practice-oriented project formats.
The applications of intelligent flight systems range from logistics and infrastructure inspection to environmental monitoring and disaster protection, as well as new mobility concepts and applications in the defense sector.
A particular advantage of the program is the close connection to the Technology Transfer Center for Unmanned Flight Systems in Manching. This provides students with direct access to research infrastructure and cooperation with companies and scientific partners.
With the new Master’s program, THI strengthens its focus areas in artificial intelligence, mobility, and digitalization, while also responding to the increasing demand for skilled professionals in autonomous aviation systems.
