A strong ecosystem for Artificial Intelligence in Bavaria
The BAIOSPHERE is the centerpiece of the Bavarian AI ecosystem. It connects leading actors from science, economy, and society to a powerful network for Artificial Intelligence. The goal is to make AI Bavaria visible nationally and internationally – as a center for research, application, and responsible development. BAIOSPHERE was created as part of the Hightech Agenda at the initiative of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts, the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs, and the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.

This progress is supported by renowned institutions such as the TUM, LMU, the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, several Fraunhofer Institutes as well as the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics.

The Bavarian State Government is investing around 5.5 billion euros as part of a technology offensive in top-level research, academic teaching, and innovation. With 1000 new professorships and 13,000 new study places, universities and colleges are strengthened. The focus is on future technologies such as AI, additive manufacturing, life sciences, microelectronics, 6G, quantum technology, aerospace, and cleantech. In the AI sector, over 100 new professorships were created and non-university research centers strengthened. The goal is to establish Bavaria as a world-leading location for AI research, development, and application.
